Hidden Gems

Not every memorable honeymoon destination appears in the guidebooks. Vietnam has a wealth of places that most international visitors never reach — quieter, less polished, but often more rewarding for couples willing to venture beyond the well-known routes. These hidden gems offer authenticity, privacy and experiences that feel genuinely yours.

Da Lat sits in the cool highlands of southern Vietnam, surrounded by pine forests, flower gardens and French colonial villas. Known as the City of Eternal Spring for its year-round mild climate, it has a creative, slightly bohemian atmosphere and some of the country's best coffee.

For a spiritual escape, Perfume Pagoda is a complex of Buddhist temples and shrines set into limestone cliffs south of Hanoi, reached by a scenic boat ride along a river through rice paddies. The Mekong Delta in the far south is a world of floating markets, fruit orchards and winding waterways — a completely different Vietnam from the beaches and mountains, best explored by small boat over a couple of days.

The border town of Chau Doc, near the Cambodian frontier, sits where the Mekong meets the Bassac River and offers floating fish farms, Cham Muslim villages and the sacred Sam Mountain with panoramic views across the delta. Further north, the port city of Hai Phong has handsome colonial architecture, excellent seafood and serves as a quieter gateway to Cat Ba Island and Ha Long Bay.

And for those drawn to history and remoteness, Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam's far northwest is the site of the famous 1954 battle, surrounded by a lush mountain valley inhabited by Thai and Hmong communities. It is one of the most off-the-beaten-track destinations in the country, and all the more memorable for it.
