A cool highland city of flower gardens, misty pine forests and French-era villas — long known as Vietnam's honeymoon capital for its romantic atmosphere.
Da Lat has been Vietnam's honeymoon capital since the French named it "Le Petit Paris" over a century ago. At 1,500 metres on the Langbian Plateau, the city trades tropical heat for sweater weather, misty pine forests and flower gardens that bloom year-round. The Valley of Love, named Vallée d'Amour by the French in the 1930s, is the country's most iconic romantic destination.
Stay at Ana Mandara Villas, a restored 1920s French colonial estate, or at the Bill Bensley-designed Hotel de la Coupole. Paddle swan boats on Xuan Huong Lake, ride the cog railway to Linh Phuoc Pagoda, and share a weasel coffee at a hillside plantation overlooking the plateau.
The city sits 308 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City in Lam Dong province, reachable by a 50-minute flight to Lien Khuong Airport or a scenic six-hour drive through the highlands. The French established it as a hill station in 1912 after Alexandre Yersin discovered the plateau in 1893, and over 2,000 colonial villas still dot the hillsides.
Xuan Huong Lake is the heart of the city — a five-kilometre crescent formed by damming a branch of the Cam Ly River between 1919 and 1935. The Crazy House, designed by Moscow-trained architect Dang Viet Nga in 1990, is a Gaudí-inspired guesthouse of tree-shaped towers and ten themed rooms. Datanla Waterfall, seven kilometres south, has Southeast Asia's longest alpine coaster at 2.4 kilometres. Lang Biang Mountain rises to 2,167 metres, reachable by 4x4 or a three-hour trek.
The climate sets Da Lat apart. Average temperatures hover at 20 degrees year-round, and the cool evenings bring out the city's café culture — weasel coffee, local wine from Ladora Winery, and strawberry-picking at hilltop farms. The biennial Dalat Flower Festival brings 300,000 potted flowers and exhibitors from over 40 countries.
December to March is the dry season — cool mornings of 10 to 15 degrees, sunny afternoons up to 25, and clear skies ideal for exploring. The biennial Flower Festival falls in late April. Avoid June to September for heavy monsoon rain.
Lien Khuong Airport has daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City (50 minutes), Hanoi (2 hours) and Da Nang. The airport is 30 kilometres south, about 40 minutes by car. We arrange private car transfers for all our honeymoon packages.
